Supplemental Instruction (SI)

SI is an academic support model implemented in universities nation-wide that uses peer-assisted study sessions to improve student retention and success. The LCC SI sessions are regularly scheduled informal review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss class material, develop organizational tools and predict test items. The students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together. The sessions are facilitated by “SI leaders (SIL)”, students who have previously done well in the course and who attend all class lectures, take notes, and model peer student behavior.

Tutors for STEM classes

Student tutors at the ACE Lab will provide one on one, or group tutoring for developmental math and other STEM classes throughout the day. A tutoring schedule will be posted for each semester.

Academic Coaching

At the ACE lab you will find assistance in setting career goals, and accommodate the changing dynamics of your interests. We will assist you with examining your learning style, habits of working and current difficulties or barriers to success. Through a supportive relationship we will heighten your awareness of what it takes to achieve academic success and help you develop new strategies and personal responsibility habits.

Educational Resources

The ACE Lab provides students with computers to access Blackboard, math-labs and on-line class sessions, as well as calculators and spare textbooks. At the lab studying is facilitated through STEM faculty members, peer tutors and an academic coach who all will help students navigate successfully through the institution of higher education.

The ACE Lab is offering information on internships and scholarships to help STEM students excel in their chosen fields. Internships are geared toward combining academic studies with on-the-job training.

The lab also serves as a source for disseminating information on innovative teaching and assessment practices in science, math, engineering, and technology education. We host seminars and workshops in collaboration with the ARMAS Center at Highlands University on factors affecting student success and pedagogical best practices.

The ACE Lab is located in the technologies building just beyond the administration building and open to all students during Fall and Spring semesters, Monday –Thursday from 8AM – 8PM, Friday from 8AM – 5PM. Summer session, Monday – Friday from 8AM – 5PM.
