What is Commencement?

Commencement is the Luna Community College graduation ceremony hosted by the college, Faculty, Board of Trustees, and the College President.

When is Commencement?

Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10 am, on the LCC Main Campus.

How long does it last?

The commencement ceremony lasts approximately 1 ½ hours.

How do I participate?

All students must be cleared by the Office of the Registrar prior to participation in commencement. For more information please visit the page Clearance Process & Diplomas

Will I be recognized individually?

All graduates will proceed across the stage to be recognized individually and will be given a diploma cover. Diplomas will not be given out at the ceremony, they will be ready approximately six to eight weeks after graduation and mailed to the address listed on your Application for Degree

Am I eligible to participate?

Students must submit an Application for Degree to the Office of the Registrar no later than April 6, 2018 at 5 p.m. MST. This will generate the final degree check to determine eligibility to participate. Students may be cleared after this deadline but will not appear in the Commencement program.

Where do I get my cap & gown?

Cap and gown is required in order to participate in the commencement ceremonies and must be purchased at the LCC Bookstore. Academic regalia is required for all participants and cannot be modified or altered in any way. For further information on ordering contact the Luna Bookstore at 505.454.2569.

On which side does my tassel go?

Before graduating, the tassel should be on your right. After graduating, it should be moved to the left.

Where do I park?

Graduating students will be given a parking permit at rehearsal for priority parking the day of graduation. Any student not able to attend rehearsal and in need of a parking permit will need to contact the LCC Security Office at 505-429-1159. General parking will be available near Nursing, LCC Administration and across from the LCC Humanities building. Thank you in advance.

Where do I go for processional line up?

Line up for main campus commencement attendees will start at 9:00 a.m. on the LCC main campus. Name cards for the ceremony must be picked up at the door when entering the Graduate Student area, starting at 8:30 am, prior to line up. All students must pick up a card before the ceremony begins.

Will my name appear in the program?

Students’ names will appear in the program as it appears on their Application for Degree, as long as your Application for Degree is received by April 6, 2018 by 5 p.m. MST.

Will there be a rehearsal?

There will be a rehearsal for students taking part in the main campus Commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 11, 2018, at 12 p.m. For more information regarding rehearsal at the college, please contact the Office of the Registrar directly. Rehearsal is reserved for students to be aware and prepared for the Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

How will I know if I am receiving graduation honors?

All students receiving graduation honors will be notified by the Office of the Registrar via their Luna student email by end of March 2018.

Will my friends and family need to purchase tickets to attend the commencement exercises?

Tickets are not required for guests to attend the commencement ceremonies.

What if I need special accommodations?

If I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa where do I obtain my honor stole?
  • Students who are active members of Phi Theta Kappa may purchase their honor stoles directly with the societies faculty advisor.
  • Eligibility for Phi Theta Kappa is not determined by the Office of the Registrar, questions regarding eligibility should contact the Phi Theta Kappa advisor.
