Dual Credit and Concurrent Enrollment Program

There are two types of high school enrollment
A Concurrent Enrollment student:
- is enrolled in an accredited public, private, charter high school, or home school, and
- will only earn college credit toward a certificate/degree and not toward high school graduation, and
- tuition is waived by the College and the student/parent are responsible for some costs related to enrollment, including textbooks.
Students who would like to take college courses without having the courses recorded on their high school transcripts may enroll as concurrent enrollment students.
Students who wish to take courses not approved by their high school as a Dual Credit course may also enroll as a concurrent enrollment student.
Admission to the Concurrent Enrollment is limited to high school or home school students who are classified as sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
A Dual Credit student:
- is enrolled in an accredited public, private, charter high school, or home school, and
- is permitted by parents and high school authorities to apply for admission, and
- if accepted, will earn college credit toward a certificate/degree and high school credit toward high school graduation.
- tuition is waived and registration fees for students within our district and high schools provide textbooks for their students. Students are responsible for other course fees and supplies such as the distance education fee.
Dual Credit is designed for high school students who are classified as second term freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who qualify and may be eligible to earn college credit while they are still in high school.
Dual Credit is a collaborative partnership between Luna Community College (LCC) and accredited New Mexico high schools, private schools, and home schools to deliver college-level courses to students in Northeastern New Mexico.
Luna Communitiy College serves school districts from the Northeastern sector of the state to include:
- Cimarron High School
- Maxwell High School
- Mora High School
- Pecos High School
- Robertson High School
- Santa Rosa High School
- Springer High School
- Wagon Mound High School
- West Las Vegas High School
Students may receive Career and Technical Education designed by high school and college instructors working together to provide a coordinated sequence of instruction. Students are able to receive college credit through articulation agreements between high schools and LCC technical programs, which include subjects such as Automotive Technology, Collision Repair, Barbering, Building Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Wiring, and Welding. In addition, the program provides access to academic courses such as English, Math, History, and Social Sciences, that deliver simultaneous credit toward high school graduation and a post-secondary degree or certificate.
Research studies on dual credit participation have shown that dual credit enrollment contributes to improved academic performance.
Students:
- graduate from high school at a higher rate than their peers,
- are better prepared for college,
- are more likely to receive a technical education,
- require less first-semester remediation in college, and
- are more likely to obtain a college degree within four years.
